Tax Assistance

The Davis-Monthan AFB Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Office volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS to prepare a variety of returns for our military community. This is a free service for any Active Duty, dependents (with military ID), National Guard, Reserve, Public Health, and Military Retiree with access to the base. Assistance is by appointment only. Appointments are made by contacting the legal office. Please note that due to software changes, the VITA office will likely be unable to access your previous year’s return. To expedite return preparation and insure accuracy, you may want to bring your previous returns to your appointment. Previous returns can be retrieved by contacting the IRS.
Key paperwork to bring to your appointment:
· Military ID for Taxpayer and Spouse (not required for dependents unless we are doing a return for them)
· Social Security Number (SSN) Cards for everyone who is listed on the return -- MANDATORY PER THE IRS
o IRS approved alternatives for the SSN Card are: Medicare Card Part A or Social Security Benefits Statement with your SSN on it. NOTE: The Social Security Agency (SSA) is no longer issuing letters with your name and SSN on it while waiting on a new card so now is the time to contact the SSA if you cannot find your card. You can get a new card at the Social Security Office located at 3808 N 1st Ave, just north of Prince Rd, contact phone number is 1-800-772-1213.
· Last year’s Tax Return
· All Tax Forms (W-2s, 1099's, 1098's, etc)
· Account Information for Direct Deposit (Institution, Account #, and Routing #)

Legal Office

The Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, located at Building 2300 on the second floor, provides legal assistance to eligible personnel and legal counsel to commanders on all matters affecting the installation and the mission, including such wide-ranging areas as military justice, administrative actions, ethics, operations law, environmental law, claims, contracts, civil law and labor law.

Legal Assistance

Active-duty, reserve component on orders or pending deployment, retired military members, and military identification card-eligible dependents are eligible to receive legal assistance for personal, civil legal issues. Please note that ethical rules prohibit us from providing assistance on matters where a person is already represented by another attorney.

Powers of Attorney and Notary service is available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday on a walk-in basis. No appointment is needed.

Legal Assistance is available by appointment. Appointments are generally scheduled for Thursday mornings. Active duty members and their dependents may also attend legal assistance walk-in hours on Thursdays from 0730 to 0830 on a first come, first served basis. Please note that drafting wills, healthcare powers of attorney, and living wills cannot be done during walk-in hours and always requires an appointment.

If you need a power of attorney or a will, you must complete a legal worksheet before coming to the legal office. Go to https://aflegalassistance.law.af.mil. On this page, select "Legal Worksheets." Select the appropriate document and complete it on-line. You will be given a ticket number. Save the ticket number and when you make your will appointment, give us the number. Ticket numbers are not automatically sent to the legal office. No appointment will be made without a ticket number.
Due to mission requirements and current manning, the only assistance available for retirees and their dependents are the walk-in notary and power of attorney services. Additionally, retirees who need assistance with the creation of wills, living wills, or healthcare powers of attorney may attend a scheduled retiree will event. Please contact the legal office for more information and to schedule an appointment.
