In a continuing effort to strengthen communications between the base and community, 355th Fighter Wing Commander Col. Kent Laughbaum has announced the establishment of the Community Initiatives Team - the first in Air Combat Command.

The CIT was a recommendation of both the Joint Land Use Study and the Military Community Compatibility Committee, the latter of which was released in September 2006.

This team will assist the commander and serve as a liaison between Davis-Monthan AFB and the surrounding community on issues such as flight operations, land use and environmental concerns.

Scott Hines, the newly appointed CIT chief, has broad experience with D-M and its relationship with Tucson and Southern Arizona. In 2005 through 2006, he served as the primary D-M representative with the MC3 effort.

"Mr. Hines has been engaged with representatives from local neighborhood associations, business leaders, city and county officials in formulating the Military-Community Relations Committee and the final MC3 recommendations under D-M's purview," said Colonel Laughbaum. "As the chief of D-M's CIT, Scott will be directly involved in preserving and enhancing the tremendous relationship Tucson and D-M have shared for more than 80 years."
