Hostage recovery training was conducted on the California coast during Angel Thunder 2015.

Two German CH-53GS's, along with Australian and U.S. rescue personnel, arrived at Camp Pendleton, coordinated with local intelligence personnel, and ultimately recovered simulated hostages from Naval Air Station North Island.

Throughout the training scenario, German rescue forces practiced low-light mission planning, which required night vision goggles.
