Release Number: 010317

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. – Today the U.S. Air Force released the draft Environmental Assessment addressing the Angel Thunder Personnel Recovery/Rescue Training Exercise in the Southwest United States for public review and comment. A 30-day comment period follows the release of the document. The comment period will end Tuesday, April 4.

The draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) analyze the potential impacts associated with the Air Force’s proposal to conduct Air Combat Command’s biannual Angel Thunder Personnel Recovery/Rescue exercise, which is primarily based out of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

The proposed training sites are located on federal, tribal, state, municipal, and private land in areas of Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, and California that have been previously disturbed or currently or previously used for the activities conducted under the Proposed Action.

Training airspace used by Angel Thunder would largely cover Arizona, southern New Mexico, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada and off the coast of San Diego, California, using established military operations areas and training routes.
