U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West’s Jazz Ensemble Performing Free Concert at Fox Tucson Theatre, 27 April, 3 p.m.

The Commanders, a newly-revived jazz ensemble, part of the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West, is performing a free concert here at the Fox Tucson Theatre, Sunday, April 27 at 3 p.m. Tickets are now available at the Fox Tucson Theatre Box Office at 17 West Congress Street or by calling 520-547-3040. Individuals are limited to no more than six tickets.

Under the direction of Master Sgt. Jeremiah True, The Commanders carry on the American musical tradition of the great traveling big bands. This energetic group of highly-trained professional Airmen-musicians plays everything from traditional jazz and swing to Broadway favorites, popular tunes, Latin rhythms, and patriotic music.

Audiences can expect to hear the music of jazz legends Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Count Basie and Charlie Parker, as well as, contemporary big band leaders and composers such as Gordon Goodwin and Maria Schneider.

The U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West is stationed in the San Francisco Bay area at Travis Air Force Base, Calif. The only active duty Air Force band west of the Rockies, the Band of the Golden West is comprised of about 60 talented and versatile Airmen-musicians who perform across seven western states, 13 Air Force Bases, eight Air Force Reserve wings, and six recruiting squadrons.
