Girls Incorporated is a national nonprofit organization committed to inspiring girls to be "strong, smart, and bold."
Dating back to 1864, Girls Inc. has been providing educational programs to millions of American girls, many of whom live in high-risk, underserved areas. The organization has evolved to now offer innovative programs that help girls confront societal messages about the perceived value and potential of females, preparing them to lead independent, successful and rewarding lives.
Based on research, Girls Inc. develops informal education programs that encourage risk-taking and guide girls to master physical, intellectual and emotional challenges. Current programs include math and science education, pregnancy and drug abuse prevention, literacy across various spectrums, young-adult health, violence prevention, and sports.
