Operation Deep Freeze

One component of the Tucson Winter Shelter Program From is Operation Deep Freeze which runs from November 15 to March 31. Operation Deep Freeze is an emergency plan for opening overflow shelters to provide beds for the homeless on nights when the temperature drops to 350 degrees or to 400 if it is raining. Volunteers from Davis-Monthan help collect clothing, jackets, and coats to help keep homeless warm. Volunteers also prepare and serve meals at the Operation Deep Freeze shelters. The Salvation Army Hospitality House, 1021 N. 11th Avenue, just south of Speedway, serves as an intake facility.
