Wings of Blue over D-M
The team’s main mission is training cadets to make unassisted freefall skydives. They run the only certified first-jump program in the world where students can make their first freefall jump without assistance.
“To be a tandem master you have to display a lot of skills,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Brandon Hargrove, 98th FTS parachute jump instructor. “You have to brief people on what to do for a safe skydive and you have to have really good canopy control skills because there is a lot more involved with having somebody attached to the front of you.”
The Airmen were selected by their leadership to experience the sensation of freefalling and the opportunity to view Tucson and D-M AFB from thousands of feet in the air.
“It was very interesting and fun to take off from D-M and be able to look out on the boneyard,” Airman 1st Class Dylan Nygren “You get to see D-M from a birds-eye-view, it’s really something.”
The team will also perform aerial demonstrations at D-M AFB’s Thunder and Lightning over Arizona Open House this weekend.
