DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --
At a Davis-Monthan Top 3 meeting in September 2006, 355th Fighter Wing Command Chief Master Sgt. Jim Parkhill issued a challenge. He challenged the Top 3 to organize a committee specifically designed to plan and conduct the first annual D-M Senior Noncommissioned Officer Induction ceremony.
Everyone loves a challenge, so naturally the Top 3 embraced the idea, stepped up to the plate, and a committee was born. Soon after, a date was set: July 27, 2007. Our theme for this first-time event is "Raise the Roof."
Master sergeant results will be released June 14. What better way to properly recognize the outstanding achievements of this elite cadre than with a formal recognition ceremony? For those of us who have been there, and for those of us who are striving for promotion, it is widely recognized we don't get there completely alone. We depend on the support of our families, supervisors, coworkers, and even subordinates. Davis-Monthan's first SNCO induction ceremony will allow our recent promotees to share their achievements with those who matter the most.
Today's senior NCOs provide senior leadership - their advice and council is sought by superiors and subordinates alike. Promotion to master sergeant is the first step in assuming this role. They will be easily recognized by the addition of the "roof" now gracing their chevrons. But they will also be recognized because they have proved themselves. They have mastered the skills and demonstrated the dedication required of senior noncommissioned officers. From this point on, they will always be held to a higher standard. What they have achieved is admirable, and tradition demands that we honor and respect this significant career milestone.
As new Senior Noncommissioned Officers, our inductee's roles will change significantly. They will lead by example and consistently "rack and stack" priorities. Responsibilities increase, demands on their time increase, and all the while they will remain at the forefront as the epitome of professionalism. For some, this induction will be their last major event. For others, this induction will be the beginning of a journey through the senior NCO tier. Regardless, their accomplishment is a milestone that warrants tremendous respect. It is a honor for the D-M Top 3 to plan this ceremony - to give all of our inductees proper recognition for a job exceedingly well done. Like our inductees, we all accept challenges and strive to "Raise the Roof."
Mark your calendar now for July 27. This date will mark a significant milestone in more ways than one.
The ceremony will take place at the Holiday Inn at 4550 S. Palo Verde Blvd. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. Our guest speaker is scheduled to be the fifth chief master sergeant of the Air Force, retired Chief Master Sgt. Robert D. Gaylor.
