Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz. --
Col. Kent Laughbaum assumed command of the 355th Wing at Davis-Monthan during a change-of-command ceremony Aug.18.
Colonel Laughbaum was welcomed by Lt. Gen. Norman R. Seip, 12th Air Force commander, Col. Michael Spencer, previous 355th Wing commander, and members of the Desert Lightning and local community during the official ceremony.
Colonel Laughbaum is a command pilot with more than 4,700 hours of flight in the A-10, F-15E, T-38 and T-37 aircraft and joins the Wing from Royal Air Force Lakenheath in England where he commanded the 48th Operations Group.
During his time there, Colonel Laughbaum also acted in the capacity of the Director of Plans and Programs for the 48th Fighter Wing, the Director of Operations for the 492rd Fighter Squadron, and the Commander of the 494th Fighter Squadron, RAF Lakenheath.
During the ceremony, Colonel Laughbaum expressed his desire to effectively lead the Airmen at D-M - the base where he began his career.
"No second lieutenant expects to command the wing where he was first introduced to the noble profession of combat aviation. To lead here is an incredible privilege," said Colonel Laughbaum.
The new commander encouraged the Desert Lightning community to remain focused on fighting and winning America's wars and reminded them of the successes the wing has achieved in previous conflicts.
"For those of you who have been tested in the fire of combat, well done," Colonel Laughbaum said. "For those of you whose time is yet to come, let our heritage before you be a source of inspiration."
