DAVIS MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- D-M's very own Marcelina Chambers has won military spouse of the year for the base. She is currently in the running for the Air Force wide distinction.

Chambers has been a military spouse for over eleven years, as well as a mother of two daughters, Renatta Raquel, 7, and Sariah Martina, 3.

During the course of her marriage, her husband, Tech. Sgt. Anthony Chambers, 355th Security Forces Squadron, has deployed seven times and had one permanent change of station.

Chambers is currently an assistant attorney general in the child support enforcement section. As a military spouse she provides child support briefings to various organizations and Squadrons for active duty members and veterans on D-M.

"As a military spouse attorney, I am trying to get child support services on," Chambers said. "I've already started working on it."

She also works with the Military Spouse JD Network to eliminate licensing barriers for military spouse attorneys. This is a major issue whenever a family PCS's to another state and causes the spouse to study and retake the Bar exam, which is close to $500 per test.

These are some of the issues Chambers will bring more attention to if she wins at the Air Force level.

"Even if I'm not chosen to be military spouse of the year, I'm still going to do everything I can," Chambers said. "I'm still going to continue to do my briefings on base and my work with the Military Spouse JD Network. Nothing is going to change".

Nominees who have won their respective base, district, or state level award will be candidates for the branch round of voting. Branch SOYs will be selected based on the highest combined score derived from both the popular vote and judges' panel.
