MAC holds annual awards luncheon

The Charles T. Niblett Wingman of the Year and E.D. Jewett awards were presented to Airmen here March 17 at the Mirage Club.

The Military Affairs Committee selected the nominees and held an awards luncheon to announce the winners.

Tech Sgt. Kyle A. Rojas, 42nd Electronic Combat Squadron EC-130H student analysis operator, received the Wingman of the Year award.

"Wingmen in the Air Force describe Airmen who look out for one another, anticipate difficulties and respond to maintain the welfare of their fellow Airmen," said Chief Master Sgt. Vincent Howard, 355th Fighter Wing command chief master sergeant. "Our best wingmen maximize personal and team safety on and off the job, and develop true caring relationships with co-workers."

The E. D. Jewett award was granted to the 355th Civil Engineer Squadron based upon mission accomplishment, utilization of resources, base support and community support.

"This awards luncheon is our biggest one of the year, and we really enjoy being able to showcase some of the best in the Desert Lightning Team," said Ms. Ellen Jimenez, MAC chairperson.

The MAC also presented a check for more than $6,000 to the First Sergeants Association from the Pima Association of Exempt Staff. The Pima ACES are the official employee group representing the interests of all exempt employees at Pima Community College.

The MAC has been a standing committee for the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce since 1929. Their mission is to build and maintain bridges of understanding and cooperation between military and civilian communities within Tucson and Southern Arizona.
