The second annual 24-hour POW/MIA run or walk vigil will be held Oct. 16 starting at 7 a.m. at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base's Heritage Park.

During the vigil, teams can either walk or run the POW/MIA flag for 30 minutes. The goal of the vigil is to keep the flag moving non-stop for 24 hours.

Members of the community are invited to participate in the vigil. Registration is available at www.dm.af.mil or by contacting 1st Lt. Natalie Yazdandoost, the event's coordinator at 520-228-0048.

"We are hosting this event because it is an active and completely unselfish way to remember those who are prisoners of war, missing in action or who have been killed in the line of duty," said Lieutenant Yazdandoost.

During last year's vigil, more than 500 people participated and more than 1,200 volunteer hours were logged.

Media are invited to cover the event from 7 to 8:30 a.m. To RSVP, contact the 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office by 4 p.m. today at 520-228-3407.
