U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Kevin Sitko and Senior Airman Kiah Wilson, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base’s top male and female Alpha Warrior competitors, will participate in the Southwest Regional Alpha Warrior Competition at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., Oct. 12, 2018.

The Alpha Warrior competition is an Air Force fitness initiative established in 2017. This annual event incorporates a series of fitness obstacles that utilize the Alpha Warrior Rig and exercise sites around it.

“The entire course consists of 14 stations,” said Cesar Vinueza, 355th Force Support Squadron fitness center manager. “The basic goal is to go through the course as fast as possible while completing each exercise properly.”

This year’s competitors will perform the Osprey Tab Test; this trial consists of a set number of burpees, landmine squats, a rope climb and 11 other dynamic workouts that must all be performed within four minutes.

“You can’t give up if you don’t do well on the first obstacle,” Wilson said. “You have to keep trying and push through.”

Sitko and Wilson will have to compete against the top male and female contestants from Holloman, Luke, Kirtland, and Cannon AFB in order to secure a spot in the national competition in San Antonio, Texas.

“We can all do these exercises, but it comes down to who can do them the best on that very day.” Sitko said. “People should definitely come out to see this competition. The best in all of us athletes will come out and spectators will see who, for that one day, will perform at the highest level.”

The Southwest Regional Alpha Warrior Competition will take place at the Haeffner Fitness Center this Friday at 10:00 a.m. Be sure to come out to and support our Desert Lightning Team competitors.
