October is National Energy Awareness Month, and every year DM participates in this initiative.

This year's initiative has been replacing the airfield’s 310 stadium lights with LED lighting, which is estimated to save DM $163,000 per year.

“This new lighting isn’t just mission critical equipment, it is also using 75 percent less energy,” said Gary Krivokapich, 355th Civil Engineer Squadron energy and utility manager. “Efficient energy use saves taxpayer dollars and releases money to increase global mission capability and readiness.”

This project started development in 2019 with 355th CES working with 355th Contacting Squadron and 355th Operations Support Squadron's Airfield Management Flight in project management to help with energy reduction.

“DM continues to reduce energy through projects like this and last year, DM had a 2.5 percent energy reduction from the previous year,” said Krivokapich.
