D-M's BSP under annual review

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz., --  D-M's base support plan is now under its annual review.

A base support plan lists a base's resources and capabilities. It's a chart developed for every base with a permanent presence.

The program is Air Force-wide and controlled by each base's Log Plan office.

"Reviews have to be completed before the calendar date of the previous year," said Senior Airman Sammie Ervan, 355th Logistics Readiness Squadron Base Support Plan manager. "For example, last year we closed out by Nov. 9, so this year we have to get it done by Nov. 8."

Here at D-M, there are 45 chapters to the BSP with a total of 22 units that participate in the review. Each functional area has their own chapter. A few units have more than one chapter.

"Services will go through and see how many people they can provide a bed for based on the facilities they have," Ervan said. "Another example would be security forces. Their functional data manager will update their chapter with the new information of the 29-B gate opening up this year at the south end of the base."

Each section updates their list and passes it on to Ervan, who reviews it before sending it off to wing leadership for approval.

By conducting a BSP, the Air Force allows bases to see what each one has to offer.

"A couple of years ago Fort Huachuca was having a lot of wildfires in their area and were thinking of evacuating," Ervan said. "So the Army equivalent of a log planner, sat down with one of D-M's planners and worked out how many people we could bed down or provide resources for."

BSP gets used for actual emergencies and exercises.
