D-M has positive impact on Tucson economy Published May 3, 2013 By Senior Airman Camilla A Griffin 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- According to D-M's Fiscal Year 2012 Economic Impact Analysis, released here April 26, D-M and military retirees circulated approximately $1.6 billion and helped create more than 4,600 jobs in the local area. "The EIA is usually released around April each year, it takes about three to four months to compile," said Liz Rivera, 355th Comptroller Squadron deputy budget officer. "D-M is an integral part of the Tucson community. The valuable relationship with the Tucson community and Southern Arizona supporters helps us achieve our mission objectives." The EIA, an annual publication, is designed to inform the community about personnel assigned or employed at the base; annual payroll of all assigned and employed personnel; construction expenditures; services and procurement of materials, equipment and supplies; and an estimated number and dollar value of indirect jobs created by D-M's presence in the community. "The 355th Comptroller Squadron annually prepares the D-M Economic Impact Analysis to provide unclassified information to the public concerning our significant economic impact to the greater Tucson area," said Lt. Col. Simon Scoggins, 355th CPTS commander. The EIA is a useful resource to Air Force planners and a source of key information for community leaders, legislators and installation visitors, Rivera said. "The purpose for the EIA is to show how D-M's existence affects the local Tucson metropolitan area," Rivera said. "In addition to making that strong argument for the importance of D-M in the local Tucson community, the EIA provides public officials and visitors with key information concerning the mission, resources and economic impact of D-M." The EIA also provides information on D-M facilities and properties. The base operates and maintains 519 buildings, encompassing 4,409,801 square feet of space. D-M's footprint includes 6,011 acres of government-owned land and 4,578 acres of easement, rights-of-way and leased land, totaling 10,589 acres. "Davis-Monthan could not succeed in its mission without the contribution and support of our local communities," said Col. Kevin Blanchard, 355th Fighter Wing commander. "We are proud to be a part of a community that faithfully and consistently supports our military."
