Back in March of 2012, D-M was announced the winner of the Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award. Ten months later, the last of the projects funded with the CINC award money is currently under construction.

When asked how the award money should be spent, D-M members voted for the Gate 29B upgrade. A number of smaller initiatives were also supported.

To date, the following initiatives have been completed:

· Cross-functional fitness room
· Interval training bikes
· Quijota Boulevard sidewalk
· Flightline gym upgrade
· Tax Assistance clinic upgrade
· Special needs seminar
· 355th Force Support Squadron barbeque grill
· D-M dog park

The construction on Gate 29B began on Jan. 22. It is slated to take 180 days and should be completed mid to late May.

"With the enhancements to Gate 29B underway, our goal of increasing quality of life for the Desert Lightning Team with the Installation Excellence Award funds is nearly complete," said Col. Greg Williams, 355th Mission Support Group commander. "We are pleased that we were able to put money into a wide range of activities, equipment and facility upgrades that benefit the entire base."
