DFAC slated to reopen January

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --  The dining facility is tentatively scheduled to reopen sometime in January.

With the DFAC reopening, Airmen living in the dorms will be losing their Basic Allowance for Subsistence. December will be the last month for the Airmen to collect BAS, and are advised to prepare themselves financially.

Tech Sgt Ebony Leach, Airman Dorm Leader, said "Each Airman is personally responsible for maintaining their finances and in this case the airmen were all briefed that receiving BAS was temporary. We in Dorm Management have done our part by keeping them aware as to when the DFAC would reopen and reminding them to take precautions to avoid a negative financial circumstance from occurring".

"I've noticed there are a lot nice cars out in the parking lots recently, which is fine if Airmen can afford them. I just hope it wasn't based on the premise of getting BAS, because this was never meant to be permanent," said TSgt Leach.

For Airmen who have come accustomed to having the additional money and are worried about struggling with their finances, there is the Airmen and Family Readiness Center. Classes on how to manage your money and make a budget are taught at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center.

As for the DFAC, several new additions have been made. The dining area has been replaced with all new tables and chairs as well as a sports bar. In addition vast improvements were made to the kitchen area including the conversion from old steam equipment and dishwashing system to gas. This conversion will potentially save$22,000 in utilities annually.
