The 43rd Electronic Combat Squadron is collecting canned food for the Cardiac Community Kitchen and the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona until November 9th.

This is the first time the 43rd ECS has held this event.

"It was an idea to get us involved in the community," said Capt. Jeremy Jacques, 43rd Electronic Combat Squadron officer in charge of scheduling. "Everyone thought it would be a good idea. So it went from an idea, to snowball and it just took off from there."

They are looking to collect canned foods dealing with the Thanksgiving season.

"We're trying to focus on the Thanksgiving meal; foods like stuffing, instant mash potatoes and green beans," Jacques said. "In fact, I talked to the organizations and they're actually making for a big push for cranberry sauce."

So far the 43rd has collected more than 2,000 pounds of canned goods.

"Our goal was about 3,000 but since its going so well we're hoping to get about 5,000 pounds and split it up evenly between the two organizations," Jacques said. "We want to help make the holidays bountiful for others. "

If you would like to donate, drop off all donations at the commissary or the 43rd ECS by November 9th. If you have any questions, contact Capt. Jeremy Jacques at 228-9383.
