Airmen to volunteer for “Tucson Meet Yourself”

TUCSON, Ariz. --  The "Tucson Meet Yourself" Festival is scheduled to be held Oct. 12-14 in downtown Tucson and more than 40 members of the Desert Lightning Team have volunteered their time to the annual community event.

Airmen are scheduled to help with set-up, tear down, green team, which is a trash pickup and recycling detail, and traffic control.

"Most of the volunteer will help out with the set up, trash and recycling, etc.," said Senior Airman Caleb Anderson, 355th Equipment Maintenance Squadron and point of contact for TMY. "There are a few of us who will also act as area captains, and we'll each oversee a group of about 55 volunteers."

Volunteers are scheduled to work 12 different shifts for the festival.

"I chose to be the POC to not only represent the base well, but to also gain helpful knowledge in leadership," Anderson said.

"Tucson Meet Yourself" is a "folklife" festival that showcases artists and communities that carry on living traditions rooted in cultural significance. The festival was first held in 1974 and has been a Tucson institution for more than 30 years.

"I think it's important to volunteer because we all have to humble ourselves to serve others that are in need, plus it always feels good to help someone," Anderson said.
