Security officers of Chenega Corporation, formerly Tanya Walker and Company, are no longer guarding the front gates due to their contract ending Sept. 30. The 355th Security Forces Squadron will take over as permanent gate guards.

The company had been in contract with the base for roughly six and a half years.

The transition from the Chenega Corporation to the 355th SFS wasn't a surprise to the security officers. They knew that they were going to need to find new jobs. Slowly but surely employees are finding them.

"The company started with about 40 security guards and now it's down to about 30 because guys are finding other jobs and new career fields," said Algodfrey Alexander, Chenega Corporation site manager.

Louis Fletes, Chenega Corporation entry control point security officer and retired member of the U. S. Air Force, had been working with the company for a year and a half. Not only did he enjoy guarding the gate, but also meeting many different people throughout his day.

"I saw a lot of people every day and it's good to know that you're doing something people appreciate," Fletes said. "Most of the people were really enjoyable. You not only get to know their families, but you get to know them and they get to know you. It's something I'm going to miss."
