Editor's note: Each month, the legal office publishes the results of actions under the Uniform Code of Military Justice completed during the previous month. Specific individuals who received Nonjudicial Punishment are not identified.

Article 15 Actions: During November 2011, D-M commanders administered 8 Nonjudicial Punishment actions under Article 15 of the UCMJ. The punishments imposed reflect the commander's determination of an appropriate punishment after considering the circumstances of the offense and the offender's record. A "suspended" punishment does not take effect unless the offender engages in additional misconduct or fails to satisfy the conditions of the suspension. The suspension period usually lasts for six months unless a lesser amount is specified.

Dereliction of Duty x 2 - A master sergeant received a suspended reduction to technical sergeant.

Dereliction of Duty - A technical sergeant received a suspended reduction to staff sergeant.

Simple Assault - A staff sergeant received a suspended reduction to senior airman, 14 days extra duty, and a reprimand.

Dereliction of Duty/Failure to Obey - An airman first class received a reduction to airman and a reprimand.

Dereliction of Duty/Disrespect to NCO - A staff sergeant received a reduction to senior airman and 15 days extra duty.

AWOL/Dereliction of Duty - A senior airman received a reduction to airman first class, suspended forfeiture of $300 pay, and 10 days extra duty.

AWOL/Dereliction of Duty x 2 - An airman first class received a suspended reduction to airman basic.

Dereliction of Duty/False Official Statement - A technical sergeant received a reduction to staff sergeant, 30 days extra duty, and a reprimand.

1) Senior Airman Lorin J. Grigsby, 355th Equipment Maintenance Squadron, was tried by general court-martial on 29 November - 2 December 2011. He pled guilty to conspiracy to distribution of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribution, distribution of marijuana, and money laundering. He was sentenced by a panel of officer and enlisted members to a reduction to the grade of E-1, confinement for 17 years, and a dishonorable discharge.

2) Staff Sergeant Gerald K. Semchuk, 355th Equipment Maintenance Squadron, was tried by special court-martial on 29 November - 1 December 2011. He was found not guilty of all charges of Dereliction of Duty by a panel of officer and enlisted members.
