Overnight Freeze Preventative Maintenance Published Dec. 5, 2011 355th Mission Support Group DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The unseasonably cold weather is forecasted to remain for the next 36 hours. As a precaution against these conditions, the following preventative measures are highly recommended to mitigate water line ruptures for DMAFB facilities as well as personal property. Overnight Freeze Preventative Maintenance Checklist for facility managers and home owners in effect for the next 36 hours: 1. Turn a restroom faucet on to a very slow flow overnight, making sure that the drain is free from any obstructions! This process will allow the water to flow through the plumbing system and help prevent freezing of the lines. 2. Keep cabinet doors open to ensure that air is circulating around the pipes inside your house. 3. Locate where your water service enters your home/facility. Wrap a large towel around this inlet and use tape to secure it from the wind. Do not remove the towel until warmer weather arrives. 4. Locate the water-isolation valve, ensure that it is operational, and close it ONLY in the event a water line bursts inside your home or facility. 5. Shut off all garden drip irrigation systems. 6. It is highly recommended that private home owners/renters have an emergency number for a local plumbing company on-hand. 7. Soaring Heights residents should direct water related emergencies to the Soaring Heights Maintenance Team at 520-748-3334. 8. Facility Managers should alert 355 CES Customer Service at 228-3171 for all water related emergencies. -30-
