D-M held its annual Thanksgiving meal at the Desert Inn Nov. 24.

Airmen from the 355th Force Support Squadron assigned to the Desert Inn literally worked around the clock, pulling 24-hour manning at the dining facility to pull off this feast.

To feed the masses, the Desert Inn used more than 1,000 pounds of food.

"Thanksgiving is more than an American tradition," said Tech. Sgt. Joseph Youngs, 355th Force Support Squadron dining facility manager. "It's an opportunity to open our doors and share a meal with the Airmen and our retirees, as well as the Tucson community. It's a time where our food professionals can showcase their culinary skills, dedication and commitment to serving our country."

The meal was opened to active-duty and retired military members and their dependents. It was held from 12 p.m. through 2 p.m.

"We're glad that everyone came out today and we are glad to be able to share this meal with you all while you are away from home," said Col. James Meger, 355th Fighter Wing vice commander.

Colonel Meger, Brig. Gen. Jon Norman, 12th Air Force, Air Forces Southern, vice commander, and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords donned aprons and hats and dished up food for the Airmen during the meal.

Just before the meal was blessed by the Chaplain, General Norman shared some wisdom with the Airmen present.

"As a parent, I'd like to remind all of the Airmen that, after you eat, please call your parents," Norman said. "I'm sure they'd love to hear from you since they can't be with you today."

More than 400 Airmen and retirees attended the meal, which is held every year at the Desert Inn.
