Volunteers Collect Cookies for Annual Cookie Crunch Published Nov. 15, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Christine Griffiths 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Volunteers will be collecting cookies for the annual "Cookie Crunch" at the Mirage Club here from Nov. 28-29. Cookie Crunch is an Airman morale program sponsored by the base each holiday season. Cookies are collected from families on and off base. For two days volunteers sort through cookies and allocate shares for each squadron. Each first sergeant will then pick up their cookies and hand deliver them to their Airmen. "We want to spread the holiday cheer and let them know we're thinking about them," Milam said. Volunteers work with $150 budget, given by the officers spouses club and they combine that with donations given by families, said Jamie Milam, Cookie Crunch volunteer coordinator. This year's goal for the Cookie Crunch team is to distribute 2,000 bags. "We're trying to reach all the single Airmen on and off base from master sergeant and below." Milam said. The commissary donated over 1,500 bags to the Cookie Crunch event. The bags were sent to Borman Elementary School and the youth center on base where children decorated them for the Airmen. Volunteer hours are from 6:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. , Nov 28 and 6:30 a.m. -10:00 a.m., Nov. 29. For more information contact Jamie Milam at 520-269-7345 or at milama10@earthlink.net.
