Davis-Monthan increased security measures around the base following the reported sighting of an armed individual entering an office building.

Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel, Tucson Police and Tucson Fire Department as well as other emergency services personnel provided support to D-M personnel as they worked to investigate the situation.

Upon notification, D-M initiated a base-wide lock down. This consisted of minimizing movement on base to ensure the safety and security of all personnel and families.

D-M Airmen remained in lockdown from approximately 10:30 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. when a floor-by-floor, room-by-room search of the building in question was completed.

Local and federal law enforcement personnel in concert with base security forces conducted a sweep and secured the building, where the alleged gunman was reported.

No gunman or weapons were found. The building was declared secure and an orderly release of personnel followed.

All reports of threats regarding the safety and security of our Airmen and their families are taken seriously.

Information regarding ongoing operations were restricted to protect operational security.

With the help of Tucson emergency services, Airmen were successful in maintaining the safety and security of the Desert Lightning Team.

I'd like to praise the professional response of base personnel and the local emergency responders. By working together we ensure that our community and base stay secure.
