There was food, fun and laughter during the National Night Out hosted by Soaring Heights Communities here at Ironwood Park Aug. 2.

National Night Out is a countrywide event meant to foster relations between communities and local law enforcement and emergency agencies. It also promotes drug and crime prevention.

"National Night Out gives us the opportunity to educate residents about their safety providers in a fun and informative manner," said Amara Comeau, a Soaring Heights marketing manager.

Law enforcement agencies and civilian partners set up booths offering information and demonstrations of what their duties are.

"We usually deal with criminal types, so it's nice to be able to show our skills to some smiling faces," said Steve Parker, a member of the Tucson Police Department SWAT team. "We enjoy showing those we protect exactly how we do what we do. Especially at events like this because anything that brings communities together is important."

Squadrons from D-M also offered demonstrations.

"A lot of people think our squadron only does one thing, so it's cool to be able to show them some of the things they didn't realize we did," said Senior Airman Brian Ayers, 48th Rescue
Squadron.

More than 400 people came out to participate in this event. This is the fifth NNO that SHC has hosted at D-M.

"We love hosting this event because it gives residents a chance to meet their neighbors, have a little fun, and become more familiar with the local authorities," Ms. Comeau said.
