Taking advantage of the recent spring-like weather, the Outdoor Recreation Center took its name to heart and brought all its equipment out-of-doors for an expo here March 29 in Bama Park.

The expo showcased the center's various kayaks, canoes and A-Liner pop up campers; and it also informed the public about the many programs and outings offered.

"We are a diverse facility," said Ms. Connie Knoob, Outdoor Recreation Center manager. "We operate the swimming pools, paintball range, adventure programs, parks, and the RV Storage lot, among other things."

In addition to renting out equipment, the center hosts trips to different attractions across Arizona, including the Sonoita Wine Vineyards and the Queen Mine tour. Participants sign up at the recreation center and pay a nominal fee that includes transportation to and from.

"We try to get people off the base and show them what Arizona has to offer," said Ms. Rikki Rossow, Outdoor Recreation Center assistant manager. "It's especially good for the younger Airmen to get out of the dorms and have some fun."

They also have a variety of equipment such as tandem bikes, a dunk tank, a hand-cycle and a movie screen.

"We actually use the movie screen a lot here in the D-M community," Ms. Knoob said."We hold movies in the park and also "Dive-In" movies at the pool."

Dive-In movies, where families can watch movies on the inflatable screen while swimming in the pool, are slated to be held every third Friday from May through September. The events are collaborated between the Outdoor Rec, Soaring Heights, and the Community Center.

Not only does the center supply equipment for individual Airmen enjoyment, but they also supply items for squadron picnics, D-M 50 events, retirements, and change of commands.

"We have items that help build unit and squadron cohesiveness," Ms. Knoob said.

The bowling alley, community center, Arts and Crafts, Auto Hobby, and the Golf Course were invited to set up informational booths at the expo.

"Outdoor Recreation is important because we provide equipment for recreation and fitness," said Ms. Knoob. "We help people learn about the great outdoors and get the best experience possible while recreating. We are here to make off-duty time fun for everyone."
