Davis-Monthan joined a new online community this week with the launch of an official base Facebook page and Twitter profile May 18.

The social media sites will help deliver Davis-Monthan's stories, images and information to online audiences, while bringing audiences closer to the D-M mission and Airmen.

"We are very excited about the possibilities social media has given us to connect with our local and global community," said 1st Lt. Mary Pekas, 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs. "We hope this forum will help our neighbors learn more about what we do, but also allow our Airmen to take an active role in telling their Air Force story, too."

The social media outlets will be used as an extension of the base website to share links, photos, videos events, and updates on an interactive forum where the public can explore, share comments, and upload their own content.

Facebook and Twitter users can receive updates and join the conversation by "liking" or "following" the Facebook page and Twitter profile.

Airmen are encouraged to log on and engage in the social media effort, but they are reminded to maintain operational security and protect sensitive information.

"Social media is a really valuable tool for our Airmen to keep in touch with their friends and family from around the world, but they have to remember that the rules for OPSEC apply to all communications, whether that is telephonic, e-mail or social media," said Lieutenant Pekas.
