The Airmen and Family Readiness Center celebrated Military Spouse Appreciation Day with a weeklong gift certificate raffle and by giving gifts to spouses in recognition of their hard work and dedication.

"We do something different every year. Last year we handed out flowers and certificates to show appreciation for everything military spouses do. This year we gave an assortment of gifts and a raffle," said Clayton Moore, retired Chief Master Sergeant and community readiness consultant at the A&FRC.

A&FRC employees personally thanked over 100 spouses who came to the A&FRC this week.

"Military spouses are a group that has long been ignored but now the military recognizes their importance to the mission," said Mr. Moore. "Spouses are the key element to military success."

Spouses who came out appreciated all the recognition.

"It's great. This is the first base I've been to that they have done this for us," said Steffany Boyer, wife of Senior Airman Curtis Boyer, 355th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

The A&FRC hosts events that provide an avenue for military spouses to connect with each other.

"When the guys are deployed we don't feel alone and we can meet other spouses," said Andy Terrell, wife of Staff Sgt. Gregory Terrell, 355th AMXS.

As Mr. Moore said, "Family is not only our mission but it's our middle name."

The A&FRC will be hosting more Military Spouse Appreciation events throughout the month of May.
