POW-MIA Recognition Day 2009
Dr. Jonathan Gardner, director of the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System, and Brig. Gen. Paul Johnson, 355th Fighter Wing commander, place a memorial wreathe at the POW monument during the POW-MIA memorial ceremony at Heritage Park Sept. 18.
The United States’ national POW/MIA recognition day is observed on the third Friday of September each year. Many Americans take the time to remember those who were prisoners of war (POW) and those who are missing in action (MIA), as well as their families.
