The 355th Civil Engineer Squadron hosted its first annual Motorcycle Mentorship Poker Run and Safety Day here July 24 at Bama Park.

The poker run, which was open to all motorcycle riders who possess a DOD identification card, opened for registration early that morning and attracted more than 100 participants.

Wing Safety personnel started the run by inspecting personal protective equipment of all riders.

"The purpose of this event was to promote motorcycle safety while providing the opportunity and time for motorcycle mentors to train mentee's in distance riding, riding in traffic, and group riding," said Col. Paul Johnson, 355th Fighter Wing commander.

The run was approximately 116 miles long with five stops, and volunteers were ready at each stop to stamp cards showing the individuals hand.

"The overall turn-out of the event was outstanding," said Staff Sgt. David Fulkerson, the event coordinator.

The run ended with a bar-b-que luncheon at Bama Park to complete the day.
