The Air Force Assistance Fund donation campaign recently concluded to the tune of $126,808.51 - 20 percent more than the goal set by AFAF organizers prior to the kick-off of the donation drive, according to Capt. Bryan Jandorf of the 355th Operations Support Squadron.

The Air Force Assistance Fund is the official fund raising campaign of the U.S. Air Force and is an umbrella campaign supporting four individual funds: Air Force Enlisted Veterans Home, Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Village, and the General and Mrs. Curtis LeMay Foundation. While these funds might seem to be limited to retirees, the Air Force Assistance Fund campaign also raises money that supports emergency assistance, infrastructure development and college scholarships.

The campaign officially began March 30 and concluded May 10.

Although there was no competition between units, Captain Jandorf said the goal of the campaign was based on individual contact and percentage of base pay. "We achieved 100 percent contact for D-M assigned members, including deployed and tenant units," he said. "Success was challenging considering the Air Force's high deployment tempo and numerous dislocated organizations. Our monetary goal of $100,355 was based on an Air Force-generated formula that anticipates half of the base's active duty population contributing .1 percent of their annual base pay."

The Air Force Assistance Fund is the one campaign that directly serves the entire organization: past, present and future generations. "The mutual support that comes from donating to the campaign exemplifies the high quality of life we enjoy serving in the Air Force," said Captain Jandorf.
