Pre-registration for Sonoran Science Academy to end April 30

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Pre-registration for sixth- through eighth-grade students to the Sonoran Science Academy here ends April 30.

Sonoran Science Academy will host a pre-registration night April 28 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Lowell H. Smith Elementary School building, where staff members will make a 15-minute presentation, answer questions and provide and accept registration forms.

Parents and guardians can also pick up enrollment packets at the Airman and Family Readiness Center on base or at the Sonoran Science Academy east campus at 6880 E. Broadway, Tucson, Ariz.

Base leadership selected Sonoran Science Academy in February as the provider to open a proposed charter middle school on base in August 2009.

The school will be housed in the former Lowell H. Smith Elementary School on base if Air Force higher headquarters concurs with the planned lease for the property. If approved, the school will be granted a 10-year lease on the building, with a mutual option to renew annually for a total lease period not to exceed 15 years.
