SHC residents to experience temporary utility outages over next 60 days Published Jan. 16, 2009 By Meryl Large SHC Marketing Manager DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Over the course of the next 60 days, beginning mid January, residents of Soaring Heights Communities will experience a number of temporary utility outages to include interruptions in gas, electric, and water service. In order for personnel to sever SHC homes from the base power grid and safely meter homes, it is necessary to reduce the possibility of injury by completely eliminating the utility sources. Outages will affect all neighborhoods at various times throughout the process. Based on data obtained from the Civil Engineering Squadron, utility consultants, and Actus Lend Lease construction, this work is being completed to increase base capacity, supporting the growing needs of Davis-Monthan AFB. Initial electrical outages will result in the severance of service from the Air Force, with the secondary interruptions for the installation of electric meters. Water outages will result in the installation of water meters and backflow preventers to monitor water usage within Soaring Heights Communities' homes. During this time, installation of gas meters will occur on all homes except those that have been newly constructed. Individual metering is anticipated to commence around 2015. Helpful tips while experiencing a utility outage: · Minimize access to the refrigerator and freezer. · Plan a picnic at a local park. · Entertain children with outdoor play dates or walks through the neighborhood. · Utilize the day to enjoy the zoo or other local attraction. A notice was distributed to residents last Friday, outlining the dates and times their particular neighborhood or street will incur outages. The schedule is as follows: Jan. 20- Kachina Village residents will experience a utility outage from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Jan. 21- Residents living on Young, Wilbanks, Sijan, Olsen, Tillman, Cunningham, Cholla, Sunset, Catalina, and Saratoga will be affected by a power outage on from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Jan.26-30- Residents living on Cholla and Catalina will experience a brief interruption in power during the week. Soaring Heights will be installing utility meters on individual homes during this time. Inspections will be conducted on the exterior of your home and will not require you to be there. A copy of this schedule may also be found on the SHC website at www.soaringheights.net.
