355 FW commander updates policy on wear of ABU Published Nov. 25, 2008 DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- In a recent policy letter, the 355th Fighter Wing commander clarified the wear of the Airmen Battle Dress Uniform during the winter months for all units, staff agencies and tenant units assigned to Davis-Monthan AFB. While performing duties outside, Airmen assigned to Davis-Monthan AFB are authorized to wear the woodland-patterned BDU Gore-Tex and/or field jacket with the Airman Battle Uniform (ABU). Airmen are not authorized to wear the BDU Gore-Tex or field jacket with ABUs anytime off the installation or when conducting personal or official business on the installation, including appointments. The Air Force Personnel Center has authorized these uniform combinations because industry is unable to meet demand for the All-purpose Environmental Clothing System (APECS). The continued objective, according to the commander, is to avoid mixing uniform items unnecessarily; specifically ABU with BDU items. Personnel should make every reasonable effort to minimize mixing uniforms, and should note that ABUs are not mandatory until year 2011. The policy will remain in effect locally until March 30, 2009.
