D-M Airmen donate blood during ARC drive Published Aug. 26, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Jamie L. Coggan 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Airmen and members from the Desert Lightning community gathered to support the American Red Cross in replenishing the reduced blood supply at the Hope Chapel here Aug. 20. Many volunteers from the D-M community came out to volunteer their time to help make the event a success. "Everyone should donate blood," said Airman 1st Class Shemeka Allen, a member of the 355th Finance group and blood donor. "I would hate to not save a life if I know I can, and it feels good to give back to the community." For a single blood donation, one unit or one pint of blood is taken from each person. During the last blood drive the American Red Cross received 92 units of blood. Blood drives are held at D-M every two months (February, April, June, August, October, and December) at the Hope Chapel Annex from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m, as it is mandatory for all blood donors to wait 60 days between donations. For more information about D-M blood drives, call Senior Master Sgt. Frances Bracks-Miller, base blood drive coordinator at 228-2909.
