Base thrift store re-opens doors Published July 29, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Tim Beckham 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The base thrift store will re-open its doors Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. after getting some much needed renovations. During the re-opening, door prizes will be handed out courtesy of many on and off base establishments and Linda Gregory, thrift store manager, said the door prizes will range from everything from certificates to Red Lobster to passes to play golf at the base course. The thrift store, located in building 3220, sells many things and all the money goes right back to the Air Force in the form of scholarships and financial assistance programs. "We sell everything from lawn and home furniture to athletic wear and uniforms," said Mrs. Gregory, who is also a retired master sergeant. "It's like people having their own garage sale, but in our store." "People who don't want to haul in their heavy items can also post a picture on our bulletin board," Mrs. Gregory added. "Anything we can't sell is given to the Airman's Attic." Volunteers exclusively run the thrift store and Mrs. Gregory said they are always looking for more volunteers. "Many retirees work at the thrift store but anyone with base access who is 16 years or older is welcome to volunteer," she said. "We are always looking for more help." People who do donate goods have the option of partial donation, which means the owner receives 70 percent of the selling price and the thrift store the remaining 30 percent, or people can donate the goods directly to the thrift store. For more information about how to donate goods or how to volunteer, call the base thrift store at 228-2120.
