Pima Community College and the Airman & Family Readiness Center have designed two employment training programs for spouses of active duty Air Force personnel on D-M. The 8-week training programs are for Medical Office Clerk or Child Care entry-level assistant. Upon completion, attendees will be certified to work in an entry level position with their respective industry.

"We have obtained a grant from the Air Force Aid Society for spouse employment training with Pima Community College," said Dawn Cooper, Airman and Family Readiness Center Discovery Center Manager. "Once completed, the training can lead to direct employment in the community and PCC will provide students with job placement assistance. I believe this will be the first time a partnership such as this has been done at D-M between the three agencies."

Both classes begin August 27 and end October 22, and will be taught at D-M's Pima Community College located in the Kennedy Professional Development Center. The application deadline is noon July 25.

Graduates of the Child Care class will receive a Certificate of Direct Employment and will be certified by the Arizona Department of Economic Security Child Care Administration. They will be certified to work as an entry-level assistant in a child care environment or to provide home child care.

After completing either training program, students will receive job placement assistance from Pima Community College. Entry-level pay at the base Child Development Center is $10.39 an hour and after one year, employees can apply for a GS-5 position, with annual salary starting at $26,264.

There is no cost for this valuable training but applicants must be a spouse of an active duty Air Force member and must be able to complete the entire training program. Space is limited so call or stop by the A&FRC today for an application!

Those selected for the training will be notified by July 31. For more information or for an application, call the A&FRC at 228-5690 or e-mail 355mss.dpf@dm.af.mil.
