African-American Heritage Committee events Published Jan. 22, 2008 DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The African-American Heritage Committee will hold the below events during the month of February. Love of Reading Month (Feb. 1-28) This annual community service event will focus on two important skills: developing an interest in reading, and educating youth on African American historical events. AAHC and volunteers will read short stories to our military community's most impressionable minds. Location: Both Child Development Centers and DMAFB Elementary Schools. POC: SMSgt. Elaine Cole at 228-4290. Bowling Tournament (Feb. 1) This event is the first fundraiser. The cost is $10 per team. You may register now. Location: DMAFB Bowling Center. POC: MSgt. Vaughn Price at 228-0326 or Capt. Amy Weaton at 228-2969. Gospel Jubilee (Feb. 10) This annual extravaganza will showcase choirs from the base and various churches around the Tucson Community. All will be welcome to join in song and dance inspired by faith. Location and time: Desert Dove Chapel at 3:30pm. POC: SSgt. Nikesha Tilton at 228-5411. Basketball Tournament (Feb. 16) This tournament will be used as a fundraiser. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams. One-hundred dollars will be awarded to 10 individuals per team. POC: CMSgt. Bryant Cole at 228-5863. Heritage Luncheon (Feb. 20) This annual buffet-style luncheon will be open to the base community. The luncheon will consist of a skit centered around the theme "Carter G. Woodson and the Origins of Multiculturalism". There will also be an essay contest held prior to the luncheon, and the winner will read their essay at the luncheon. Taste and Tones (Feb. 22) This event will be free and open to the base populace - offering tastes of dishes distinctive of the African American community.
