Are you making your holiday wish list and checking it twice? Are you counting down the remaining shopping days and planning for that special gift? How about holiday safety plans? Have you added safety to your list? 355th Fighter Wing Safety Office reminds Davis-Monthan personnel not to drop safety from their holiday planning, especially when it comes to traveling.

Sadly, vehicle mishaps often turn holidays into tragedies. Sometimes mishaps are caused when people travel to neighboring states or push too far for too long. Winter weather is also another factor. In Northern Arizona, and our neighboring states, there are ample amounts of sleet, rain, and snow waiting to greet the holiday traveler. These are conditions military members at Davis-Monthan may not be familiar with. Add speeding, distractions, and many hours of time on the road and you have the makings for a fatality.

To prevent tragedy consider driving with a friend, wingman, or an alert family member. Always limit nighttime driving, maintain the speed limit, and go slower during adverse weather conditions. Lastly, take ample rest stops, and never drive after drinking alcohol.

Add these tips to your planning list and you'll have the recipe for a wonderful and safe holiday season.
