Self-refer for a mammogram today

The 355th Medical Group has recently decided to expand the mammography department for self-referrals.

Because one out of seven women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, the American Cancer Society recommends a yearly screening mammogram for all women age 40 and above. If you meet the age criteria and are due for your yearly screening mammogram, you may come by the x-ray department or call (520) 228-2595 to schedule your exam directly.

The expanded schedule now includes all women covered by TriCare for Life. It is especially important for women 65 years of age and older to have an annual screening mammogram. The risk of breast cancer increases with age and regular screening with prior comparison images has increased the detection of early breast cancer. With mammograms and regular check-ups with your provider, the five year survival rate is now 97 percent for early detected breast cancer.

You are no longer required to see on base or off base providers prior to getting a mammogram if you have no breast problems. However, it must be at least one year from your last screening mammogram.

Please contact the 355th Medical Group Radiology Department today to schedule you mammogram.
