National Energy Action Month at D-M

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --  Desert Lightning Team members are celebrating National Energy Action Month, the federal government and U.S. Air Force commemoration designated to inform people on how to save energy, from Oct. 1 to 30.

This year's theme is Mission Assurance through Energy Assurance. The goal is to inspire the total force to be more efficient to give the Air Force an assured energy advantage in air, space, and cyberspace.

An average of 38 percent of D-M's power is supplied by the SunEdison owned and operated 16.4 megawatt solar array. The 170 acre array saves D-M approximately $500,000 a year in utility costs.

"For Airmen to be aware of the opportunity to save those dollars, whether it's shutting off lights, raising your thermostat, turning off a machine that's left on over the weekend, being aware of what those cost is an important part of the operation of the Air Force," said Greg Noble, 355th Civil Engineering Squadron energy manager. "It makes a difference not only as Airmen but as homeowners that utilities cost a lot of money and it's an opportunity to not only save the government money but save themselves money."

D-M's energy team hosted an information booth along with Tucson Electric Power and Tucson Clean and Beautiful at D-M AFB Exchange on National Energy Day, Oct. 28.

"I was pleased that we got to interact with the number of Airmen as well as their families and retired military," said B.J. Cordova, Tucson Clean and Beautiful development and communications director. "I always enjoy these events. It's a good way to share our information with people that don't always get to learn what we do."
