CFC kicks off at D-M

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --  Nearly 200 people attended a Combined Federal Campaign Kick-off Breakfast at the Mirage Club, Sept. 10, which was held to inform attendees of the fundraiser and provide motivation to give while encouraging others to do the same.

The theme this year, "You can change a life," equates with the fact that donations go toward various charitable causes.

The custom of Federal employees giving back to an array of organizations, local to international, has exponentially grown through this program since the early 1960s.

The CFC is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, with almost 200 CFC campaigns worldwide raising millions of dollars each year.

This year's kickoff breakfast featured Col. James Meger, 355th Fighter Wing commander, and special guest Ann-Eve Cunningham, executive director of the Pima Library Foundation.

The breakfast was organized by D-M's CFC committee members, led by Maj. James Maskell, the committee chairman.

According to the committee, last year's fundraising goal was $260,000. This year's goal aims to improve on that number by raising $300,000.

There are two ways to donate through the CFC: payroll deduction and a one-time cash donation.

"The payroll deduction is the easiest way to donate," said Maskell. "It's the 'fire and forget method' of donating, the money comes out as an allotment, and the best thing is, it is maximizing your charitable dollars. You don't have to worry about your money being excessively spent on administrative overhead costs."

Pledges made by federal civilian, postal and military donors support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world. This year's pledge campaign runs until Dec. 15. For more information on how you can donate, contact your unit CFC representative.
