The local Tucson community is showing their appreciation by hosting a "Welcome Home" barbecue Sept. 3 for all Desert Lightning Team members.

The Tucson community will be providing hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks, as well as entertainment. Cornhole tournaments and games, face painting, jumping castles, a paintball arena, water activities and a live band will be performing here for Airmen and their families' entertainment. In addition to the food and games, the Arizona Diamondbacks street team will be at the event with speed pitching and skeeball.

The barbecue will be held at Bama Park from 12 to 4 p.m. Airmen and their families are encouraged to use the free transportation provided; buses will transport people between Heritage Park and Bama Park from 11:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This barbecue is intended for all DLT Airmen to have fun and enjoy time with their friends and families.

"Our Airmen have worked incredibly hard during the P2 band," said Col. James Meger 355th Fighter Wing commander. "We and the community want to recognize their efforts."

D-M has completed its largest cargo movement ever and its largest personnel movement since World War II by deploying 596 short tons of cargo and 1,252 personnel since January.
