A community event was held at Rincon High School Wednesday.

The Meet and Greet event allowed members of the Tucson community to interact with their neighboring Airmen and learn about the mission of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

"We learned a little bit about what you guys do behind the scenes that not necessarily everyone gets to see," said Brandon Jones, Tucson resident.

U.S. Air Force Airmen from more than 10 organizations at D-M were available to share their stories and provide a glimpse into their daily duties.

The organizations provided many types of equipment for attendees to interact with, to include a security forces battering ram trainer, pararescue tactical gear and an advanced medical patient simulator.

"If you take the time to ask questions and get a little more hands on (with the displays and equipment), you're going to have the experience that you're looking for," Jones said.

Col. James Meger, 355th Fighter Wing commander, spoke to those in attendance about his responsibilities as D-M's commander and discussed its economic impact on Tucson. Meger also encouraged residents to take the opportunity to get to know their Airmen.

"A chance to showcase American airpower is what this was about and it was absolutely fantastic," Meger said.  "Being (able to do that) right here in the central part of Tucson at Rincon High School made it extra special. It's a chance for us to engage with the community directly, and a chance to tell them our story."
