Believe it or not, voting season is already fast approaching! Election Day is now less than two months away! Voting is a freedom that you as a military member defend. This year, 33 U.S. senators, all 435 U.S. representatives, 36 state governors, and numerous local officials are up for re-election! On Nov. 4, you have an opportunity to get your voice heard and facilitate positive changes in your state and national leadership. It is still important to vote even in non-presidential election years. Congress is the legislative branch of government that makes all the decisions regarding the defense budget, which directly affects you.

Are you registered to vote? No matter which state you are a resident of, http://www.fvap.gov is your primary online source of information on how you and your dependents can register to vote.  If you would like to vote absentee in your state of residence, all you need to do is fill out the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB).  You will need the address of your state of residence proving that you are a resident of that state (typically the address on your driver's license) and you will also need to list your Tucson address. Additionally, the FWAB form includes a write-in ballot where you can specify for whom you are voting.  The last day to mail in a FWAB (postage is free) to your local election official is Oct 28. Dependents of active duty members and civilian contractors are also eligible to vote absentee by filling out the FWAB.

In celebration of Absentee Voter's Week, Unit Voting Assistance Officers from various 355th Fighter Wing Squadrons will be available at a booth Sept 29-Oct 3 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. to assist you in registering to vote absentee as well as answer any questions you may have about the absentee voting process. This booth will be inside the Base Exchange across from the food court by GNC, so swing on by and ask any questions you may have to your friendly unit voting folks.
