D-M is preparing to kickoff its annual Combined Federal Campaign Sept. 1.

The CFC's mission is to give federal employees the opportunity to promote philanthropy by supporting their favorite charities.

There are more than 3000 national and international charities for federal employees to choose from.

"Now, D-M members can give to any charity in the world using the universal giving program," said James Arnold, Arizona CFC director. "Whereas before, it was limited to the charities on the Arizona CFC list."

The CFC provides multiple methods for military members and Department of Defense civilians to contribute to their preferred charities.

"We have pledge cards and a payroll deduction program so people can donate by cash, check or whatever best suits their needs," Arnold said.

In order to increase base-wide awareness for the CFC, a kickoff breakfast is scheduled for Sept. 4 at 8:00 a.m. Various fundraisers are also slated to take place during the campaign period.

"We want to make 100 percent contact with all personnel on base to ensure everyone knows what the CFC is and how they can contribute," said Capt. Aaron Glassburner, 355th Logistics Readiness Squadron management flight commander and CFC co-chairperson.

Desert Lightning Team members from every unit have volunteered to be the key representatives who are tasked in reaching the goal of 100 percent contact. Between Arnold and Glassburner, both are confident that this goal will be met.

"We can't do it without the collective effort of people," Arnold said. "That is what makes the CFC successful."
