National Night Out Published Aug. 8, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Chris Massey 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Cities across the country recognized the nation's premier crime prevention during an annual night out against crime Aug. 5. Each year since 1984, National Night Out events have been held on the second Tuesday of August. Its purpose is to foster relations between local law enforcement and emergency agencies which promotes involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie in the fight for a safer nation. National Night Out now involves over 37.8 million people and 16,124 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. On-base and off-base organizations are generously donating their time to provide demonstrations, safety tips, refreshments and more. Participants typically include the 355th Security Forces, D-M Fire Department, the 48th Rescue Squadron, Border Patrol, Tucson SWAT, New York Life - Child I.D. and many other organizations. D-M's National Night Out event, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored by Soaring Heights Communities, will be held Oct. 2, from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at Ironwood Park, located next to the Welcome Home Center.
